SYRIA: ‘ALL ARE WELCOME!’ JOIN SYRIA’S CHRISTIANS IN PRAYER ON SUNDAY 18 NOV.
On 18 December, Syrian Christians from across different denominations and towns will be gathering together to pray for their war-torn nation. And they are inviting you to join them:
During Christmas, we raise our prayers together not only for ourselves… but also for the ‘People’ and the ‘Land’, so that they experience peace, just like the angels chanted before the birth of the Lord of peace: “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.”
For this reason, we invite you to join us in a prayer meeting. Christian denominations will be participating from all over Syria on 18 December 2016 (including Damascus, Aleppo, Homs, Hama, Kalamoun, Latakia, Tartous, Khirbet). The intention of these prayers will be for the peace of our beloved Syria. The invitation is an open invitation… All are welcome!
These are the words of a poster which has been produced by church leaders in Syria, inviting the church around the world to join them in praying for the nation.
“THIS WILL BE A HISTORICAL EVENT”
When church leader Betros Kassis from Aleppo heard that people around the world had been invited to pray for Syria, he felt encouraged: “It gives me the spiritual strength to go on. I glorify the great name God, that he makes the broken-hearted happy and blesses the needy. Prayer teaches us forgiveness, so we also pray for those who do evil, that God will change their hearts and make them tools to spread peace and love.”
“This will be a historical event,” says Deacon Bassam Sawan from Homs. “Churches will come together to pray for peace in Syria. This day is important because of what Christ said: ‘What is impossible with man is possible with God’. This day is beyond all geographical, cultural and civilisational barriers between people from east to west. It will unite hearts and minds with Christ in order to pray and seek the Lord for peace in our land.”
“WE PRAYED FOR SYRIA… THAT GAVE US HOPE TO FACE THIS WAR”
For over five years 21-year-old Sarah* from Aleppo has known little but war. At the start of last summer she was amongst thousands of other Syrians who came together to pray for the nation.
“We prayed for Syria,” she says. “It was a moment of remembering that we are all together. That gave us hope to face this war. We as youth need to get stronger. These [prayer] events help us to make our hope in God grow bigger and bigger.
“We pray to God to give us hope and to keep us going with that hope. We are the young generation that will build the future Syria, the generation that won’t face war in the future.”

“The prayers sent to God from all over the world will be like a solid fortress to all of us,” says church leader Aphraim Wazir from Aleppo. “I believe that God will protect us and will take away this black cloud that has come over Syria when Christians meet in united prayer. I believe that God will bring back peace to our beloved Syria.”
Thank God that ‘what is impossible with man is possible with God’, and that He is the Prince of Peace
That the Lord would provide protection over believers in Syria meeting to pray on 18 December
That believers around the world would accept the invitation in support of their family in prayer
For peace throughout Syria, that displaced Syrians would be able to return to their homes and that many would come faith in Jesus Christ.
